Description

The CIS Program at Waters Elementary has several ways to volunteer. Please see the list below or contact CIS Site Coordinator Amber Galvan at amber.galvan@cissouthplains.org

1. All Pro Dads -  This event takes place twice each semester (dates TBD), and we need volunteers to help with set-up and running the event. Volunteers will welcome dads as they arrive, assist with sign-in and raffle registration, and help serve and monitor breakfast items. We also welcome dad volunteers who may be interested in serving as guest speakers—scripts will be provided.

2. Girl Scouts - The Girl Scouts group meets on Thursdays during students’ P.E. time. Volunteers will assist the troop leader with activities she has planned for the girls.

3. Litter Crew - The Litter Crew meets on Fridays to pick up trash around campus. Volunteers will assist students as they work and help teach the importance of giving back to the community and the positive impact their efforts can make.

4. Pen Pals - This group meets on Tuesdays during grade-level P.E. time. Volunteers will support students in writing and responding to letters, encouraging their communication and literacy skills.

5. Chess Club - The Chess Club meets on Mondays after school from 3:25–4:20 p.m. Volunteers will play chess with students, giving them opportunities to learn strategy, practice critical thinking, and improve their skills. The First Day of Chess club will be September 8th.

6. Sports Club - Sports Club begins in March 2026 and will meet weekly on Wednesdays after school from 3:25–4:20 p.m. in the outdoor gym. Volunteers will lead students in practicing skills related to the sport of the week. Planned sports include basketball, kickball, flag football, and volleyball.

7. Cheer Club - Cheer Club is currently being developed, and volunteers are needed to help monitor practices. The vision is to partner with local organizations such as Monterey High School, Evans Middle School, and Lubbock’s Flamenco group to teach students a cheer or dance routine. Practices will last 45 minutes and occur once a month. Volunteers with cheer or dance experience who are interested in teaching consistently would be especially valued, as this would allow students to showcase their routines in a performance for parents at the end of the semester or school year
