Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to empowering at-risk students to stay in school and on a path to a brighter future. Working directly inside more than 2,500 schools and community sites across the country, we connect kids to caring adults and community resources designed to help them succeed in school and life. We do whatever it takes to ensure that all kids – regardless of the challenges they may face – have what they need to realize their full potential.
The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. The objective is to prevent students from dropping out of school by giving them the tools they need to be successful. These tools include evidence-based programs and services that address the academic, non-academic, cognitive, medical, social, and emotional factors that directly impact students’ abilities to persist and be successful not only in school but throughout their lives.
Communities In Schools of the South Plains was chartered by the national Communities In Schools office in 1999. Since then, Communities In Schools of the South Plains has increased the number of students served from approximately 100 on three campuses to over 8,000 on 94 campuses.
