Who We Are

Charles Adams Studio Project (CASP) is a non-profit arts organization located in Lubbock, Texas.  CASP was founded by gallerist Mr. Charles Adams with the support of a generous gift from Margaret Talkington, and received its 501(c)3 status on June 10, 2011 with an effective date of October 29, 2009.

CASP’s mission is to serve as a cornerstone in the Lubbock Arts District by developing and sustaining a working artists’ community that actively engages the public with the arts.  CASP works to fulfill this mission by providing a creative environment for working artists, by offering access to  expensive or difficult to obtain art-making equipment as well as to private studio and public exhibition spaces. CASP encourages community engagement with the arts through public workshops, demonstrations, lectures, First Friday Art Trail events, and studio classes.  Since its founding, CASP has acquired and renovated real property within the Lubbock Arts District contributing to the downtown beautification of Lubbock.

What We Do

The Charles Adams Studio Project Space includes:

  • The Live/Work Studios at 1010 Mac Davis Lane. These buildings house three full-time artist residencies and one rotating artist-in-residence.  Artists residing within the Live/Work Studios are expected to engage the local community and to participate in the monthly Lubbock First Friday Art Trail.  Opportunities for community engagement include but are not limited to lectures, workshops/demonstrations/classes, curatorial projects, and open studio hours each week. We encourage innovative projects and activities that relate to each artist’s interests / research.
  • The studios on the block of 5th Street & Avenue J: houses the Helen DeVitt Jones Print Studio; The Texas Tech University School of Art: Satellite Gallery; 5&J Gallery, sponsored by American National Bank; The CH Foundation Metals Studio and Foundry.
  • Work Studios adjacent to the studios on the block of 5th Street and Avenue J: 738 sq. ft. climate-controlled spaces available for artists and arts organizations to rent for the purpose of creating and sharing work.  CASP requests its Work Studio residents commit to Open Studio hours on a weekly basis and during First Friday Art Trail events.
  • The Charles Adams Gallery: represents regional artists.
  • Director’s Residence and courtyard at 1105 Mac Davis: rent as public venues.
