Who We Are
The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Through our vast childcare services to our youth and community involvement, the YWCA of Lubbock is on a mission to create an inclusive and supportive place for our city.
We impact lives daily and advance the power of women and diversity to strengthen our community through our Women’s Health Initiative, that provides financial assistance for breast and cervical cancer screenings. Our AMEND Together Youth Program cultivates change by engaging men and boys to help eliminate the cycle of violence and grow a culture of healthy masculinity. Additionally, the YWCA of Lubbock provides a childcare and early education to over 250 children daily through our Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.
One of the largest non-profit social service organizations in Lubbock, the YWCA has grown dramatically over the course of the last decade. An initial budget of $7,000 in 1956 has increased to more than $5.5 million in 2018. Our latest campaign involves the renovation of the abandoned Kmart building located at 6501 University into an 180,00 square foot, multi-generational community center connecting families with critical services as well as entertaining activities and events. From childcare to culinary, from health and wellness, to fitness and outreach, the Y on U will be an inclusive safe place for all Lubbock families.
