Volunteers are the heart of our mission! Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. From our humble beginnings with one boy’s wish to be a police officer, we have evolved to be one of the world’s leading children’s charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and nearly 40,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 34 minutes. Wish Granters work with families over the course of 12-18 months volunteering about an hour a month per wish child. Wish granters are trained individuals who meet with our children to determine their wish.These volunteers work closely with the Make-A-Wish staff to make each wish come true.Wish granters will have the opportunity to meet with wish families virtually (FaceTime, Zoom Meetings, HouseParty, Phone Calls, etc.) or in person.Wishes can be granted in just several days or may take up to a year to complete.A specialized training program is provided before contact is made with a wish family.We serve a large percentage of Spanish speaking with families, and without Spanish speaking wish granters, we are not able to quickly meet the needs of those Spanish speaking families. If you are fluent in both English and Spanish, please consider becoming a wish granter.

We can always take gently-used clothing, toiletry items, and household items for all ages. We work to provide the children we serve with all their needs, all the way up until they move to living independently!

Time Commitment: One year, meeting twice a month

Volunteers are needed to sew and/or decorate stockings from home,  February to November.

Please contact Dona (441-3558 or stockingsproject@aol.com) for ready-to-sew stockings and supplies.

$6,500 will be needed to purchase candy for stuffing stockings.

Donations of candy will be collected in October. Left-over Halloween individually wrapped candy is very welcome! Please call Dona to arrange a candy pickup.

Please donate new Christmas cards to the Stockings project. These Christmas cards, with encouraging messages written inside, will be stuffed inside of the stockings being sent to our US military.

Also, please save and donate any Christmas cards you have received to be used for decorating the stockings and making handmade cards.  Gold, silver, green, and red glitter glue is used to attach the pictures from the (used) Christmas cards onto the denim, or in making homemade cards. Donations of glitter glue would be very welcome!

MEAL DELIVERY:  If you are looking for a warm, fuzzy feeling try delivering meals to the homebound, elderly or disabled of our community; it only takes about an hour.  There are approximately 12 to 15 meals per route. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday, but you can deliver as often or as little as you would like; once a week, once a month, substitute or permanent.

A brief orientation is required and you may complete your volunteer forms at lubbockmealsonwheels.org. 

Sometimes our volunteers are the only people our clients see.  Your visit is much more than just a meal, it is a friendly face checking on someone in need.  Join our volunteer family and make a difference.

Fabrics, thread, felt, ribbons, lace, rickrack, buttons, straight pins, fabric glue, glitter glue, used Christmas cards, and other items used to sew and decorate stockings are needed.

Stock our Freezer - Our amazing volunteers and friends provide meals each day for the families that stay at the Ronald McDonald House. It takes away the worry and hassle of food preparation so that the families can give all of their energy and attention to their child.

If you have a drawer filled with plastic bags or a stack of newspapers and are looking for something to do with them, give them to us! Our Resale Center reuses bags and newspapers for purchases. You can drop them off at the Resale Center at 1505 34th St. Monday-Saturday 9:30am-11:30am or 12pm-5pm. Thank you!

Have you seen our Community Fridges? They are visited by on average 15-20 people a day but, often the Fridges struggle to stay stocked. If you are able, we'd love to see the Fridge filled with some more food as we await grant funding to continue to keep them filled with good food. Catholic Charities offers a Peer Parent Supporter that provides supplemental peer to peer support for parents in high risk and general population families with children between the ages of 0 & 17. Peer Parent Supporters assist parents with setting and achieving family strengthening goals. 

The objective of the Peer Parent Supporter is to provide all parents with resources to accomplish their individual goals toward strengthening their family.

Peer Parent Supporters are apart of Strengthening Families. The Strengthening Families Program is a 9-session, evidence-based parenting skills, children’s social skills, and family life skills training program specifically designed for high-risk and general population families. Peer Parent Supporters are also trained to co-facilitate these workshops.

LHUCA invites volunteers for First Friday Art Trail! FFAT is a LHUCA's program, held on the first Friday of every month in collaboration with more than 20 art venues in the Lubbock Cultural District.

Volunteers will be issued a LHUCA Volunteer Badge and help in a number of areas including:

We are seeking volunteers who would like to help transport our Villagers and staff to weekly outings. These include: Meals on Wheels routes, bowling, trips to Lubbock Impact and more! We have several different passenger vans. Help make an impact in the Lubbock community while volunteering with our Villagers! 

Our Cart with a Heart is a Ronald McDonald House on wheels. To provide coffee, water, juice, snacks, basic toiletries, and distraction items door to door of every pediatric unit. We are needing teams of dedicated individuals (18+) to commit to one shift on a weekly ongoing basis. These volunteers will need to be willing to go through an application process before being able to participate.

NAMI Lubbock is seeking an advocacy coordinator. This is a volunteer position and is part of a leadership team that supports NAMI Lubbock. 

NAMI Lubbock is the Lubbock Affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness which provides support, education, and advocacy for people living with a mental illness and their family and friends. NAMI Lubbock operates as a “Model B” affiliate under the umbrella of NAMI Texas. 

The advocacy coordinator is responsible for advocating for Mental Health in the community. 

This person would work with NAMI Texas Public Policy Director to ensure NAMI Public Policy is communicated to members and local leaders.  This role helps advocate for local members throughout the community.  Ideally, this person would be trained in NAMI Smarts, an advocacy course giving you skills to help advocate for you or a loved one. 

All volunteers in leadership positions must be a member of NAMI Lubbock. 

The advocacy coordinator is expected to attend a one-hour monthly leadership team. Beyond the regular meeting, it is expected that this role can be performed in 5-10 hours of time per month.

A website manager is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and administration of organization's website. Ensure that the website is up to date, engaging, and meets organization's goals and user needs. Perform a range of tasks to ensure the website is functional, easy for users to navigate, and represents organization well.

Must be 18 years old.

Must have at least 1 year experience creating websites and managing websites Background required.

teach students how to sew with a sewing machine. Teach students how to select fabric and thread, and how to set up a sewing machine. Teach students basic sewing skills to create various sewing product such as quilts, pillow cases, etc.

Sewing experience preferred.  

A "Scribe Assistant" would primarily be responsible for accurately documenting information during meetings by taking detailed notes in real-time, ensuring complete and accurate information, allowing  staff to focus fully on meetings.

Volunteer drivers, both regular and substitute, are needed each weekday to deliver meals. You do not need to commit to a set schedule to volunteer for LMOW. Some drivers prefer to take the same route on the same day each week whereas others prefer to just substitute when needed. For many of our clients, the LMOW volunteer may be the only person they see during the day. That daily human contact is just as important as the nutritious meal they are receiving. Each route takes approximately 1 hour to deliver. Most routes have 10 – 16 clients. A background check and one hour orientation is required for all delivery volunteers.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

In-House Cleaning: (Individuals or Group)

Ronald McDonald House is just that – a HOUSE.  We run much like your very own household…only time 17 because that’s how many rooms we have. We need volunteers to help with light household cleaning, organizing closets, separating donations, putting them away, and much more.  This is a great individual or group opportunity for volunteers of all ages. 

Ronald McDonald Family Rooms: (Individuals or Pairs)

Family Rooms are mini–Ronald McDonald Houses and offer all families (local and out-of-town) the opportunity to take a break from the stressful hospital environment.  Families are encouraged to come to the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and enjoy a warm, comfortable setting where they can relax and get something to eat or drink.  Volunteers are required to commit to a regular volunteer schedule and incur additional training.  This opportunity does require the volunteer to step up.  Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are staffed 100% by our volunteers.  When a shift is not covered, then we are forced to close the doors, thus denying families the services we provide.

Handy Person: (Individual or Group)

Are you a Mr. or Ms. Fix-it?  Then we need you!  Volunteers are asked to do light house maintenance.  This could be anything from changing lightbulbs to fixing a loose cabinet hinge. This can be on-call or prescheduled maintenance as needed.

Office Assistant: (Individual or Pairs)

These volunteers can commit to a scheduled or on-call service.  Some of the duties of a receptionist are to answer phones, open the door, do light housekeeping when needed, and inventory rooms of families checking out of the Ronald McDonald House. Depending on the volunteer’s interests and the needs of the Ronald McDonald House, other duties will also be requested of these volunteers.

Baking Buddies: (Individual or Group)

If you love to bake, we would love to have you use your talents in our kitchen!  There is nothing more “home-like” than the smell of freshly baked cookies.  This is a wonderful and fun way to incorporate children into the volunteer experience.

Guest Chef: (Individual or Group)

Guest Chefs help to feed the families at the Ronald McDonald House.  Schedule the meal, and bring the ingredients to our beautiful, warm kitchen, and cook the dinner together as a group!  We have four ovens, two cooktops, two microwaves, and lots of pots and pans to make cooking a snap!

Freezer Friends: (Individual or Group)

Freezer Friends help to fill our casserole freezer to feed our families when we do not have a guest chef provided.  Bring the ingredients and schedule a time to prepare the casseroles in our beautiful kitchen – or simply donate a store-bought casserole!

Donation Drivers: (Individual)

The Ronald McDonald House has vehicles that are used for transporting families to/from the hospital, going to pick up supplies, taking families for scheduled trips to Wal-Mart or a grocery store, etc. Drivers sign up for scheduled shifts and/or let us know when they are available for on-call needs to serve as a substitute for the scheduled driver.  You must be 21 years or older and have a good driving record.

Of course, you could primarily do mainly one of these jobs or sample all of them until you find what makes you happiest.  If you don’t see a job that appeals to your desires, then talk to the Programs Coordinator so we can find something that best utilizes your talents. [ emma@rmhcsouthwest ]

A Morale Committee Chair's job is to improve employee morale and build a positive work environment. This role involves planning and implementing social activities, recognizing employee achievements, and addressing morale issues. They also act as a point of contact for employees, facilitating communication and addressing concerns.
