Needs From: Volunteer Center of Lubbock

Lubbock Roots Historical Arts Council and the Booker T. Washington Community Garden are looking for volunteers on our Saturday Work and Learn Days! In the summer we will be opening one Saturday a month in the morning to allow the community to come pick their own produce. We grow produce year round and were able to distribute 500 lbs of produce to the community in 2021.

On any given Saturday we will be building beds; moving mulch; planting seeds; trellising and maintaining plants; or harvesting produce!

Our campus is home to group residential cottages where children live and are cared for 24/7 by dedicated Houseparent's.

Preparing meals for a large group three times a day is no small task, and a shared meal can mean more than just nourishment—it creates space for rest, connection, and relationship-building.

You can make a meaningful difference by providing a meal, dessert, or restaurant gift card. Your generosity gives our Houseparent's a much-needed break and allows them to focus more fully on the children in their care.

How You Can Help

1. Cook in Our Kitchen - Use our newly renovated kitchen to prepare a meal onsite with your own ingredients.

2. Bring a Fully Prepared Meal - Drop off a ready-to-serve meal for the children and Houseparent's to enjoy together.

3. Sponsor a Cottage Meal Experience - Deliver a meal directly to a cottage so families can eat together in their home or invite a cottage to dine with your group in our shared dining area.

Timing & Availability

Volunteers may arrive as early as 4:00 PM Dinner is typically served between 5:30–6:00 PM

Meals can be scheduled any night of the week (Thursdays & Fridays work best).

If you’d like to bless one of our cottages with a meal, we would love to hear from you. Thank you for helping create moments of rest, connection, and care.

The following items are always needed in the Food and Hygiene Pantry at Lubbock Impact. It helps if they are pop-top, so our guests do not require a can opener.

MEAL DELIVERY:  If you are looking for a warm, fuzzy feeling try delivering meals to the homebound, elderly or disabled of our community; it only takes about an hour.  There are approximately 12 to 15 meals per route. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday, but you can deliver as often or as little as you would like; once a week, once a month, substitute or permanent.

A brief orientation is required and you may complete your volunteer forms at lubbockmealsonwheels.org. 

Sometimes our volunteers are the only people our clients see.  Your visit is much more than just a meal, it is a friendly face checking on someone in need.  Join our volunteer family and make a difference.

Guest Chefs Needed- Help Provide Nightly Meals to Families Staying at RMHC!

A good meal can make a huge difference. We would love to have you in our kitchen!

Have you seen our Community Fridges? They are visited by on average 15-20 people a day but, often the Fridges struggle to stay stocked. If you are able, we'd love to see the Fridge filled with some more food as we await grant funding to continue to keep them filled with good food. If you'd like to donate towards the Fridges you can also send a donation through our Cash App, or Venmo, or PayPal.me/eastlubbockarthouse.

Culinary Instructor Job Description

Under the direction of Executive Director, the Culinary Instructor is responsible for teaching Community youth 8 to 18 yrs old basics of main dishes, baking goods, and even fun snacks cooking, along with the importance of daily nutrition.  In addition, they should provide classes with a fun, conversational experience while cooking. Immediate Supervisor:   Responsible to the Executive Director. Qualifications: Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school. Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent knowledge, skill or development in cooking instruction/culinary classes. A minimum of one year of supervisory experience in cooking instruction/teaching with youth. A positive attitude and a willingness to provide exceptional service and to act as a leader in all culinary activities. Background check required. First Aid, CPR/AED Certification. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Essential Functions: Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions, Adhere to safety procedures, Gather materials and cooking apparatuses. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships with student populations. Demonstrate time management and detail‐oriented skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines. Ability to learn from students' participation, to demonstrate fair and consistent behavior in all matters, and to show compassion without being ineffectual.   Marginal Functions:  Participate in staff training and staff meetings. Other duties as assigned.
