Volunteer: Volunteer Mentors Needed

Who Mentored You?

We all had someone in our lives who was in our corner—a cheerleader, a guide, someone who believed in us even when we didn’t fully believe in ourselves. For some of us, it was a teacher, a counselor, a youth group leader, a friend, a parent, or a grandparent. These people showed up, listened, and cared—and having that support made all the difference.

You have the power to be that person for one of our students. By simply showing up and being a listening ear, you can help guide, encourage, and inspire a young person—making a real impact on their life. You don’t need special skills—just a willingness to care. Your support could be the difference that helps them thrive

Why Become a CYD Mentor?

By volunteering, you’ll have the chance to build a meaningful connection with a young person, instill confidence, and empower them to reach their full potential. It's a rewarding experience where you not only make a difference in their lives but also grow personally!

Program Details:

Time Commitment: One year, meeting twice a month

Meeting Dates: 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Location: YWCA of Lubbock, 6501 University Ave.

Who We're Looking For:

We’re looking for individuals who are patient, compassionate, and dependable—someone who truly cares about making a positive impact. While prior experience with children or teens is helpful, it’s not required. If you’re eager to support and guide a young person, we’d love to have you!

What You’ll Get:

Comprehensive training and materials for each mentoring session

Ongoing support to ensure you and your mentee have a successful and fulfilling relationship

The joy of transforming lives and building a stronger community

Important Info:

Volunteers must be 18 years or older

Background check and fingerprints are required

Mandatory trainings required

Volunteer: Join as a Literacy Lubbock tutor and provide assistance to individuals whose first language is not English.

Are you passionate about helping people? Are you interested in facilitating connections within our community? Are you driven to support your neighbors?

Our ESL program is bustling with non-native English speakers eager to learn the language, and they're seeking your assistance! This volunteer opportunity offers complete flexibility: you can opt for one-on-one tutoring or assist a teacher in the classroom.

If you choose the one-on-one approach, you and your student can arrange your schedule and meeting place according to your preferences.

Alternatively, if you opt for the classroom setting, we offer various days, times, and locations to accommodate your availability.

We supply all necessary curriculum and materials, along with available training, to ensure you're fully equipped to positively impact your student, their family, and the community!

We'd love to connect with you if you're keen on fostering connectedness, independence, and hope!

About Literacy Lubbock:

Our 35-year mission is straightforward: to develop and implement programs that promote literacy. We firmly believe that education and literacy levels underpin many contemporary challenges. Literacy significantly influences a wide array of socioeconomic issues, including incarceration rates, health outcomes, employment opportunities, and poverty levels. We are convinced that the most effective pathway to improving one's circumstances is through education, and we advocate for making this journey accessible, available, and free to all who seek it.

At Literacy Lubbock, we are dedicated to transforming lives and contributing to improving our world through the individuals within our community. We recognize that knowledge is power and are committed to disseminating it far and wide.
