Needs From: Volunteer Center of Lubbock

We are excited to introduce our new program, “Weekend Workshops.” This pilot program will combine the ideas of Afternoon Enrichment classes and Respite nights. Workshops will take place once a month on a Saturday morning from 9:00am-12:00pm. Each will have an enriching or prevocational theme similar to AEC classes like woodworking, art, sports & fun, etc. Every year, there will be four workshops designated for kids ages 8-17, four designated for adults ages 18+, and four designated for all ages. Camp Connect at High Point Village is designed for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and takes place August 3–7 from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM. This week-long camp offers a dynamic mix of activities like group fitness, team-building games, art, music, scavenger hunts, and interactive workshops with special guests from the community. Campers will build meaningful connections, grow in confidence, and enjoy a fun, supportive environment that encourages independence and social engagement. Volunteers get to join in on the fun!

Volunteering in fitness at High Point Village is active, encouraging, and uplifting. You help lead or support group exercise, movement activities, or recreational games tailored to participants’ abilities. The focus is on fun, safety, and motivation — whether it’s stretching, cardio, strength exercises, or adaptive fitness. Volunteering in art class at High Point Village is hands-on, creative, and community-focused. You help set up materials, support Villagers with projects, and encourage self-expression through painting, drawing, sculpture, or crafts. Our Afternoon Enrichment Classes (AEC) are filled with unique opportunities for Villagers ages 8 and older to engage in exciting extracurricular activities. These volunteer-led classes switch up every semester, with something that's sure to excite every Villager and volunteer's interests and talents. We are seeking volunteers who would like to help transport our Villagers and staff to weekly outings. These include: Meals on Wheels routes, bowling, trips to Lubbock Impact and more! We have several different passenger vans. Help make an impact in the Lubbock community while volunteering with our Villagers!
