Family Volunteer Day in 2025 is on Saturday, November 22, 2025. It is a global day of service that occurs annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, encouraging families to work together on community service projects and make a positive impact on their communities.

Please join the staff of the Volunteer Center of Lubbock and their family as we complete Projects in a Box for a few of our Agency Partners.

They are needing help with the following:

Lubbock Roots Historical Arts Council and the Booker T. Washington Community Garden are looking for volunteers on our Saturday Work and Learn Days! In the summer we will be opening one Saturday a month in the morning to allow the community to come pick their own produce. We grow produce year round and were able to distribute 500 lbs of produce to the community in 2021.

On any given Saturday we will be building beds; moving mulch; planting seeds; trellising and maintaining plants; or harvesting produce!

The Salvation Army has a couple of volunteer needs in their Thrift Store in Plainview. They are needing volunteers to help with various things throughout the store. They are also needing volunteers in their clothing closet donation center in Lubbock.

The Emergency Food Pantry at Catholic Charities serves a wide variety of community members, and with that variety comes the need for volunteers to help us maintain it.

Our food pantry is in need of assistance in the afternoons between 2 and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.  

Many of the items donated to us are from churches and local stores. We have canned goods, boxed goods, and hygiene products that need sorting and organizing. We also have freezers where we keep meats and other freezer goods, and those items need to be individually bagged and sorted as well.

Please note: this need is preferrable for a volunteer who is available for an on-going basis, NOT for court-based required community service  A background check will be required for this volunteer position. For more information, contact Carol Alonzo at 806-642-4478 or carol@cclubbock.org 

During these challenging times we've been working with a greatly decreased staff. Because of this, we have not been able to care for our grounds the way we need to.

The Lubbock Roots Historical Arts Council seeks to enrich lives in our community by promoting a greater understanding of the African American experience through the arts and through the study, interpretation and preservation of the history of African Americans. We can't do it without your help!

Please consider helping us with the following opportunities:

We need help with various operational tasks, such as assist with taking minutes at our monthly meetings and helping with communication 

We need help updating and maintaining our Roots website.

We need help writing grants for various funding opportunities throughout the year.

We need help maintaining this wonderful garden. 

Volunteers are needed to help mow weeds and clean yards!

Volunteers are needed to take animals in carriers to and from their vets appointments!

We NEED YOUR HELP!!!!

Volunteers can come work in our baby closet.  We need help sorting gently used and new clothes by sizes and restocking baby items in our shelves. You are welcome to come for one hour or two on a weekly basis.  

PRAYER IS ALWAYS NEEDED TOO!

LHUCA invites volunteers for First Friday Art Trail! FFAT is a LHUCA's program, held on the first Friday of every month in collaboration with more than 20 art venues in the Lubbock Cultural District.

Volunteers will be issued a LHUCA Volunteer Badge and help in a number of areas including:

event set-up | art activities | gallery monitoring | LHUCA campus operations | and more!

Volunteering for LHUCA is a fantastic way to become involved and connected in the local arts community!

Guadalupe Parkway Neighborhood Centers, is needing help to make sure our facilities are clean. As in sweeping, mopping, wiping down tables and chairs. It is very important for us to make sure we provide sanitized areas for our youth. 

Come volunteer with us at the 2024 Lubbock Out of the Darkness Walk at the National Ranching Heritage Center on September 7th! Help the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention- West Texas Chapter put on their annual walk to raise awareness of suicide. Shifts range from set up to break-down or registration. Volunteer drivers, both regular and substitute, are needed each weekday to deliver meals. You do not need to commit to a set schedule to volunteer for LMOW. Some drivers prefer to take the same route on the same day each week whereas others prefer to just substitute when needed. For many of our clients, the LMOW volunteer may be the only person they see during the day. That daily human contact is just as important as the nutritious meal they are receiving. Each route takes approximately 1 hour to deliver. Most routes have 10 – 16 clients. A background check and one hour orientation is required for all delivery volunteers.

Delivery volunteer opportunities are available from 10:45 am – Noon, Monday – Friday.  Non-delivery volunteer opportunities are available throughout the day Monday through Friday.

Volunteer Requirements:

·         An adult must always accompany volunteers under 16.

·         Any volunteer, 18 years and over, is required to have a criminal background check done.  The volunteer agrees to pay a processing fee which is subject to change and will be discussed at the time the volunteer begins the application process.

·         All individual and group volunteers will be put through an orientation of their responsibilities before their time volunteering.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

In-House Cleaning: (Individuals or Group)

Ronald McDonald House is just that – a HOUSE.  We run much like your very own household…only time 17 because that’s how many rooms we have. We need volunteers to help with light household cleaning, organizing closets, separating donations, putting them away, and much more.  This is a great individual or group opportunity for volunteers of all ages. 

Ronald McDonald Family Rooms: (Individuals or Pairs)

Family Rooms are mini–Ronald McDonald Houses and offer all families (local and out-of-town) the opportunity to take a break from the stressful hospital environment.  Families are encouraged to come to the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and enjoy a warm, comfortable setting where they can relax and get something to eat or drink.  Volunteers are required to commit to a regular volunteer schedule and incur additional training.  This opportunity does require the volunteer to step up.  Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are staffed 100% by our volunteers.  When a shift is not covered, then we are forced to close the doors, thus denying families the services we provide.

Handy Person: (Individual or Group)

Are you a Mr. or Ms. Fix-it?  Then we need you!  Volunteers are asked to do light house maintenance.  This could be anything from changing lightbulbs to fixing a loose cabinet hinge. This can be on-call or prescheduled maintenance as needed.

Office Assistant: (Individual or Pairs)

These volunteers can commit to a scheduled or on-call service.  Some of the duties of a receptionist are to answer phones, open the door, do light housekeeping when needed, and inventory rooms of families checking out of the Ronald McDonald House. Depending on the volunteer’s interests and the needs of the Ronald McDonald House, other duties will also be requested of these volunteers.

Baking Buddies: (Individual or Group)

If you love to bake, we would love to have you use your talents in our kitchen!  There is nothing more “home-like” than the smell of freshly baked cookies.  This is a wonderful and fun way to incorporate children into the volunteer experience.

Guest Chef: (Individual or Group)

Guest Chefs help to feed the families at the Ronald McDonald House.  Schedule the meal, and bring the ingredients to our beautiful, warm kitchen, and cook the dinner together as a group!  We have four ovens, two cooktops, two microwaves, and lots of pots and pans to make cooking a snap!

Freezer Friends: (Individual or Group)

Freezer Friends help to fill our casserole freezer to feed our families when we do not have a guest chef provided.  Bring the ingredients and schedule a time to prepare the casseroles in our beautiful kitchen – or simply donate a store-bought casserole!

Donation Drivers: (Individual)

The Ronald McDonald House has vehicles that are used for transporting families to/from the hospital, going to pick up supplies, taking families for scheduled trips to Wal-Mart or a grocery store, etc. Drivers sign up for scheduled shifts and/or let us know when they are available for on-call needs to serve as a substitute for the scheduled driver.  You must be 21 years or older and have a good driving record.

Of course, you could primarily do mainly one of these jobs or sample all of them until you find what makes you happiest.  If you don’t see a job that appeals to your desires, then talk to the Programs Coordinator so we can find something that best utilizes your talents. [ emma@rmhcsouthwest ]
