The “Vamos a Pescar, Let’s Go Fishing” event in Lubbock, Texas uses fishing as a hook to bring families together. The event is free, does not require a fishing license, no registration fee, and no cost for lunch – so as to not hinder families, or discourage their participation in the event. In 2009, the event drew 1,800 participants. The fishing event continues to grow and includes families from the South Plains! Our 17th Annual event will be on Sat., August 8, 2026! We will be celebrating our 17th year!
Volunteer Opportunities
Event Week Dates:
- August 6, 2026 - Lake Cleanup – Time: 6 p.m.
- August 6, 2026 – Prepare Bags at 5:30 p.m., Landwer Party House
- August 7, 2026 – Set Up at 5:30 p.m., followed by Volunteer Dinner
- August 8, 2026 – 17th Annual “Vamos a Pescar, Let’s Go Fishing” Event
- Volunteer Shift Times:
- All Day
- 4:00 a.m. - 10 a.m.
- 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Volunteers must be checked in and will be placed at various stations that are vital to this event.
- The last shift is very important as volunteers from previous shifts are tired from the day.
- Please dress comfortably and wear good walking shoes, and wear a hat or cap. A volunteer vest will be provided at check-in return at check-out to also document your hours of service.
- We will have sunscreen and bug spray.
- Lunch provided for volunteers.
- Make a family, group, or friend event. You can also fish after or before your shift.
