Brighten Someone's Day!
Make an encouragement card for residents of Grace Campus. Grace Campus is a transitional housing shelter for people experiencing homelessness in Lubbock. Your cards will help brighten their day during this time of loneliness and isolation.
Materials Needed:
Included in your Volunteer Center Packet:
- Blank Notecard and Envelope
- Postage Stamp
- Toothpick
Materials from home:
- Tacky Glue (not a glue stick)
- Pressed Flowers/Leaves
- Spoon
- Kleenex facial tissue
- Bowl
- Ruler
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
Instructions:
- Go outside and look for beautiful leaves and flowers. Press them between two pieces of plain or wax paper using something heavy like thick books. Keep nature items pressed for a few days until they are free of moisture.
- Fold a piece of cardstock in half to make a card. Once pressed, arrange flowers and leaves on the front of your blank notecard to make a pretty design. Glue them in place with tiny drops of glue and a toothpick.
- Mix a spoonful of glue with a spoonful of water in a bowl. Lay your card flat on the work table and brush some of this watery glue on the paper around your pressed flowers and leaves.
- Unfold a facial tissue and pull the 2 layers of the tissue apart. Place a layer on top of your card.
- Gently drip and brush watery glue over the tissue so it sinks down onto the flowers and leaves. Set the card aside to dry.
- When your card is completely dry, use scissors to trim extra tissue from the edges of the notecard. Fold the card again and write an encouraging message inside letting the recipient know that you are thinking about them.
- Stamp the envelope and address it to: Grace Campus, PO Box 53891, Lubbock, TX 79453
