One of my roles at the Volunteer Center involves rummaging through hundreds of pictures from our events to find the best shots for social media and our other communications pieces like this newsletter. I don't always get to be out at the service projects, so it was a pleasant surprise when I came across these pictures of our Past Board President Brian Borthwick and our Board Treasurer Jon Weddige volunteering with their for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. These pictures may not immediately say as much to you, but for me, they tell the story of great leaders who believe in the Volunteer Center and are incredibly committed to our purpose.
We don't demand our board members take time out of their busy schedules to volunteer or attend an event, but when they do it speaks volumes. It tells the story of incredible men and women who are committed to developing a culture of service, to advancing the next generation of leaders, and to building strong collaborative partnerships.
This Friday, our board will meet for the first time in 2017. We will be introducing some new board members and welcoming back those who have been on our board for one or more years. It is an opportunity to say "welcome" and "thank you" to those committed to leading and setting the direction for the Volunteer Center, and I'd like to invite you to join us in saying "thank you" to them, as well. Thank you to Brian and our other board members who came out to serve on Monday. Thank you to our board members who routinely set aside time once a month to attend meetings. Thank you to our board members who faithfully champion the Volunteer Center, getting involved in our programs and inviting their family and friends along.
You are our superheroes!
