MLK Day of Service

New Year's Resolutions can be tricky. It can be hard to decide on the one that will truly motivate you to make a change, and it can be even harder to keep that resolution once it is made. At the Volunteer Center, we want to help you make and keep your 2017 resolution. That's why we work to make volunteering easy through providing opportunities that easily fit into your life.

National Days of Service are a great example, and MLK Day of Service on January 16th is an easy way to kick-off your resolution to get more involved in the community. We've worked with our agency partners to set-up a variety of projects at a variety of times during the day. All you have to do is sign-up and show up. We want to make it easy to make your day off a "day on" instead.

To find out more about MLK Day of Service or any of our upcoming National Days of Service, please contact Paris Wright at

Ways to Make an Impact

Lubbock Habitat for Humanity is a great place to volunteer if you want to help with outdoor work such as construction and landscaping. They aim to fulfill the mission of eliminating substandard housing in Lubbock Texas by building homes for families who are in need of safe and affordable housing. For more information, please contact Tiphanie Chanel at (806) 763-4663 or

Texas Boys' Ranch is a faith-based childcare organization that aims to meet the needs of boys and girls who have suffered from neglect and/or abuse. By maintaining this residential care program, the ranch is able to help serve children in foster care, adoption, and the emergency children's shelter to provide a safe and secure environment to stay until they can find their permanent forever home.  If you would like more information about volunteering with this agency, please contact Jay Hanley at (806) 747-3187.

The Science Spectrum is a great place to learn all about science, technology, and industry through "hands-on" learning experiences. The Science Spectrum also has an OMNI Theatre and many action-oriented exhibits at the museum that are fun and family friendly. If you think their hands-on science exhibits and live science shows are a good volunteer fit for you, please contact Andrea Crafton at (806) 745-2525 or
