Dec 7, 2016

At the Volunteer Center, all month long, we are celebrating giving. We're celebrating the spirit in you that drives you to get out into the community and serve. We're celebrating the spirit in you that compels you to donate to organizations that you love. We're celebrating the spirit in you that gives warm hugs, helps bring in the groceries, donates cans of food, walks the dog, waves good morning to your neighbor, lets that car get in line in front of you, sends thank you gifts to your child's teacher, asks the grocery store clerk how their day is going, and smiles at the people you meet. We're celebrating you!

We want to know how you are celebrating giving this December. Tweet or post to Instagram with #celebrategiving, post your stories on our Facebook page or send us an email at volunteer@volunteerlubbock.org.

Let's make this holiday season about celebrating giving!

MLK Day of Service

Mark your calendars now for our next National Day of Service, MLK Day of Service, on Monday, January 16th. This is a day about celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the legacy he left to each one of us. So plan on joining us and making Martin Luther King Day a day on instead of a day off. To find out more, contact Paris Wright at pwright@volunteerlubbock.org.

Ways to Make an Impact

The American Red Cross provides relief to families experiencing a personal disaster, CPR, First Aid and AED training, and assistance to families that are Military Service Members. Through the help of volunteers, the American Red Cross is able to create in our community a sense of health and safety, education, and disaster preparedness. For more information on how you can help, please contact Laura Hann at laura.hann@redcross.org or (806) 765-8534.

The Children's Home of Lubbock helps homeless, neglected, and abused children feel more supported and loved in their local community. They do so by providing residential care, assessment counseling, remedial education, therapeutic recreation, and social skills development. If you would like more information on how to serve this agency, please contact Kerry Michaels at kmichaels@childshome.org or (806) 762-0481.

Backyard Mission acts as a local home repair ministry in the Lubbock community. With the use of volunteers, Backyard Mission is able to provide free home repairs to low-income, elderly people in Lubbock. Through in-kind donations, they meet the needs of individuals in the community who may not have a warm and safe home environment. If you would like to find out more about how you can help, please contact lfoster@backyardmission.org or (806) 300-0184.
