The programs provided by Literacy Lubbock present essential points of literacy education and program referral in the Lubbock area. Literacy Lubbock has established multiple community partnerships, educational, and faith based partnerships in a continuous growth and expansion in order to meet individual and community needs. Our mission is to create a literate community, one person at a time. Our passion is to enable people to attain their goals and make their dreams come true through the immense empowerment of the survival skill of literacy. Literacy truly is a legacy of love. Literacy Lubbock strives to impart this legacy to those who have not received it. We believe that the support and encouragement of Literacy Lubbock will improve and change forever the lives of the students who bring us their trust and their hopes for a better future.
What We Do
Literacy Lubbock promotes empowerment of adults and families by developing, conducting, and supporting literacy programs for Lubbock area residents. Literacy Lubbock was established in 1989 as an education and human services organization. It is a non profit (tax exempt under Section 501 (3) c of the IRS Code) agency and a partner agency with the United Way of Lubbock. Literacy Lubbock provides Adult Basic Education (Reading), English as a Second Language (ESL), Pre-GED, GED study, Dyslexia training, and Family Literacy programs at no cost to any adult residing in the South Plains area. Study is provided by individual tutors or small classroom instruction to students wanting assistance to reach their personal goals.
